What makes a good video audition?
A well-prepared and excellently executed performance, of course! But what can you do to give yourself the upper hand in filmed auditions? Factors such as lighting, background, framing, music playback balance, digital sound mixing for optimum aural results, filming in 4K to ensure the highest visual quality, and the professionalism of the final product can set you apart from the crowd. In addition, thoughtful planning can streamline the process and avoid pitfalls that could render a disappointing final product.
Sure, your iPhone has a great camera and you could do this at home. But you’ve put 100% effort into preparing your performance, why would you not show that performance in the best light possible? We’re to help you make that happen!
Pre-Screens
In the majority of cases, college, university and conservatory musical theatre/acting programs have begun to require a pre-screen video audition. This first-round submission to the institution will often determine whether or not you are granted an in-person audition and further consideration for admission. The prescreen has become a very important factor in a student’s journey toward attending the college, university, or conservatory of their choice.
Summer Programs
Summer training can put an actor/singer ahead of the pack when it comes to casting in high school and community theatre programs and when applying for competitive college and university musical theatre/acting programs. Summer programs most often require video auditions of a song(s) and monologue.
